Handcuffs Handcuff injuries are common. The
tightening up of the restraints can lead to damage in the radial, ulnar, and median nerves. One
of the reasons why there are so many injuries is because police and law enforcement officers rather enjoy the tightening
up of the restraints. It is a way of punishing you and letting you know who is in control. I should know. I have experienced
this on at least one occasion. The handcuffs were tightened up to the point where I did not want to move my wrists
even slightly, trying to avoid any pain. I was left with red marks and abrasians which took about a year to
go away. I had numbness in my left hand, in the general area as the drawing suggests. The numbness was present for
about a year as well. Other complaints from those injured are of lacerations,
obvious pain, sensory symptoms, or weakness.
